Red-breasted merganser (Mergus serrator) belong to the Anatidae family in the Anseriformes order, which can be observed and photographed in northern climes. We first saw these sea ducks in Iceland at Myvatn, the mosquito lake. Surprisingly, a couple appeared between the shore plants, saw us and flew away almost synchronously.
Recently we were able to observe and photograph a larger group of Mergansers on the Baltic Sea coast of the Danish island of Bornholm. The Nikon Z9 in combination with the Nikkor Z 400 mm f/4.5 VR was able to show what is technically possible today. We were particularly impressed by the little Red-breasted merganser punk on his stone.
