Compulsory exchange and group travel - actually we had planned to travel alone through the Kingdom of Bhutan, but this had not been feasible when applying for our visas. We were all the more surprised when, upon arrival at Paro Airport in the Kingdom of Bhutan, we were only assigned a guide, a driver and a Landrover and we were now allowed to travel through Bhutan as a mini group of two. Uff, no other participants that we should have taken into account in our photo plans.
Our two Bhutanese companions were great and tried to fulfill our every wish. For example, we were also allowed to climb to the Buddhist Tiger's Nest Monastery, which was built at an altitude of 3120 meters in the Himalayas.
Tiger's Nest Monastery, also referred to by the Tibetan word Taktshang (roughly translated as Tiger's Lair), overlooks the Paro Valley in Bhutan. The monastery complex was inaugurated in 1692 and includes the Taktsang Senge Samdup Cave, where Guru Padmasambhava is said to have meditated for three years, three months, three weeks, three days and three hours in the 8th century.
